Ayushman Bharat — the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) — provides eligible families up to ₹5 lakh in free treatment (secondary and tertiary care) per family per year. The Bihar government has also extended coverage to all ration card holder families in the state, meaning most families in Udakishunganj and Madhepura district may be eligible.
How to check eligibility
- On pmjay.gov.in, select "Am I Eligible?" then "Beneficiary"
- Enter your mobile number and captcha, then log in via OTP
- Select your state, district, and sub-scheme, then search by name, ration card number, or household number
- If eligible, your name appears on screen and the card can be downloaded
How to get the card
After confirming eligibility, you can get your card made at the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC), through an Ayushman Mitra (stationed at hospitals), or at a panchayat-level camp, using your Aadhaar and ration card. There is no fee to get the card made.
The bottom line
Getting an Ayushman card is free and provides major financial protection during serious illness. For local healthcare services, see our PHC & hospital guide.
