This page compiles publicly available Transport Department information as of August 2026. Fees, test slots, and rules can change — always check current details on sarathi.parivahan.gov.in before applying.
Residents of Udakishunganj and Madhepura district can apply fully online for a driving licence for two-wheelers or four-wheelers. The process happens in two stages — first a Learner's Licence (LL), then a permanent driving licence at least 30 days later — with the test requiring a visit to the Madhepura District Transport Office (DTO).
How to get a Learner's Licence (LL)
- On sarathi.parivahan.gov.in, select "Driving Licence Related Services", choose Bihar as the state and your district (Madhepura)
- Fill in applicant details and upload age proof and address proof
- Upload a photo and signature, then book an online LL test slot (a simple online test based on traffic rules)
- Pay the fee online — on passing, the LL is issued immediately
Permanent driving licence
30 days after getting the LL (and within 6 months), you can apply for the permanent licence. On the portal, enter your LL number and date of birth, fill the form, upload documents, pay the fee, and book a driving test slot. A visit to the Madhepura DTO office is mandatory for the driving test and original document verification.
The bottom line
Both learner and permanent licence applications start online, but the test and verification require a DTO visit. For other identity-document needs, see our Aadhaar update guide.
